These are the five heads commissioned by Fingal County Council for the refurbishment programme being undertaken at Swords Castle, built in the 13th Century, just north of Dublin.

They occupy a space beneath the roof trusses, looking down upon the chapel’s nave.

Each bust represents a member of the restoration team.

The castle was built as the residence of the first Anglo Norman archbishop of Dublin, John Comyn. He held his prestigious position for 31 years from 1181 to 1212.

Each head is authentically dressed according to the results of historical research into the clothing popularly worn within Ireland’s Medieval Norman community in the late 12 th and early 13 th centuries.

The works represent an elegant marriage of modern craftsmanship and solid, uncompromising Norman architecture. The result is an almost tactile visual feast.
